EFC & Industry Partnerships

Securing trained pilots is an ongoing concern for aviation companies of all sizes in Alberta. EFC aims to create a pipeline of career-ready pilots to meet hiring needs of partners at a variety of skill levels. A “step-by step” approach through desired career paths will increase hiring success for companies requiring less flight hours and provide skilled pilots to airlines as their experience builds.

Our pathways for pilots include binding partnership agreements between Edmonton Flying Club and industry companies. These agreements ensure a mutual commitment to long-term success and sustainability for professional aviation in Alberta.

Salisbury Composite & J. Percy Page High School Collaboration

The Aviation – Flight courses at Salisbury Composite High School in Sherwood Park provide students with an intensive opportunity to gain knowledge and skills related to aviation.

Three courses cover aspects of the private pilot license, commercial aviation and instrument flight. Fundamental topics follow the Transport Canada curriculum for the Private Pilot License ground school, allowing students the opportunity to obtain a completion certificate, sponsored by the Edmonton Flying Club.

Students receive several hours of instruction in our classroom flight simulator, developing key basic flight skills and attitudes. Students will go on field trips to explore flight training locations and learn about career pathways in the aviation industry.

All course material is taught by Joe Tomkins, a commercial pilot with close to 3000 flight hours of experience working in the Northwest Territories. As of the 2022-2023 school year, 100 students have completed the first two courses of the program.
